Using coins, paper, clips, mallets, and a small bell physically attached to the strings and body, this pack captures the raw, unconventional sounds of a classic instrument pushed into new sonic territory. Broken Piano Vol 1 is a prepared piano sample pack built from a 100-year-old upright piano recorded using extended and experimental techniques. The instrument was physically altered during recording using everyday objects — coins, paper, metal clips, a curtain, mallets, and a small bell attached directly to the frame — to produce sounds that go far beyond what a standard piano can deliver.
The pack covers the full range of prepared piano sound design: from subtle textural tones created by placing paper behind the strings, to aggressive clusters, metallic scrapes, mallet throws directly onto the strings, muted low notes with clips attached, and mechanical body sounds including internal throws, lid closing, and pedal clicks. A small bell physically attached to the piano adds a unique metallic layer across single note hits, obsessive repetitions, and scraping textures.
All 88 files are recorded dry with no processing applied, giving producers full control over how each sound sits in a mix. The loops are all synced to 100 BPM and cover bass register, mid register, muted tones, paper-behind-strings variations, and a loop built around a naturally broken string.
The natural imperfections of a century-old instrument — the worn felt, the aged wood, the loosened strings — are not corrected or cleaned up. They are the sound.
